Crispy Fish and Chips Recipe, Chef Bryan Woolley's Secret

Crispy Fish and Chips Recipe: Chef Bryan Woolley’s Secret!

Dive into a world of flavor with Chef Bryan Woolley’s tantalizing Fish and Chips recipe! Perfectly golden and crunchy, this dish is a seafood lover’s dream. Whether it’s a cozy family dinner or a gathering with friends, elevate your dining experience with this simple yet delectable recipe. Here’s a link to my homemade tartar sauce.

Ingredients

1 lb fresh white fish fillets (opt for cod or haddock)
1 cup self rising flour
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1 cup cold sparkling water
Vegetable oil (for frying)
Salt (for seasoning)

Instructions

1
Begin by whisking together the self rising flour and black pepper in a large bowl. This blend sets the stage for the perfect crispy coating.
2
Gradually pour cold sparkling water into the flour mixture, whisking until a smooth, thick batter forms. It's the secret to achieving that irresistible crunch!
3
Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to a sizzling 375°F (190°C). This high heat ensures a crispy exterior while maintaining the tender flakiness of the fish.
4
Dip each fish fillet into the batter, ensuring an even coating, then gently lower it into the shimmering oil. Be mindful not to overcrowd the fryer, allowing each piece to crisp up beautifully.
5
Fry the fish for approximately 4-5 minutes until it gleams with a golden hue and boasts a satisfying crunch. Once done, transfer the fish to a paper towel-lined plate to absorb any excess oil.
6
While still piping hot, sprinkle a pinch of salt over the fried fish, enhancing its savory goodness. Serve immediately alongside my tangy homemade tartar sauce and a side of perfectly cooked chips for an unforgettable culinary experience.
