Ingredients

1 cup sugar
1 cup water
3/4 cup white vinegar
1 1/2 tbsp fish sauce
2 tbsp soy sauce
1 tbsp sesame seed oil
2 full tbsp chili garlic sauce
6 garlic cloves, finely minced
1 tsp salt
2 tbsp ketchup
1 tbsp cornstarch
2 tbsp water

Instructions

In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine sugar, water, white vinegar, fish sauce, soy sauce, sesame seed oil, chili garlic sauce, minced garlic, and ketchup. Stir the ingredients well.

Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat and let it boil for approximately 5 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.

In a small bowl, create a cornstarch slurry by mixing cornstarch and water. Gradually pour the slurry into the sauce while stirring continuously.

Continue boiling the sauce for a couple more minutes until it thickens to the desired consistency.
