Old Fashioned Biscuits and Gravy

Old Fashioned Biscuits and Gravy

This delicious biscuits and gravy recipe is a total blast from my past. My great grandmother would make this dish when she was watching me and my siblings when we were really young. It’s yummy, simple and such an easy idea for dinner.

Ingredients

For the Biscuits: 2 1/2 cups self rising flour
1 stick cold butter (8 tbsp)
1 tsp salt
1/2 cup evaporated milk
1/2 cup water
For the Gravy: 1 pound ground hamburger
1 onion, chopped
1/4 cup flour
4 cups chicken stock
1 can evaporated milk
Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

1
To make the biscuits, add the self rising flour and the cold butter to a large bowl (I cube the butter into small pieces).
2
Using your clean hands, smash the butter and flour together to combine. Add the salt the to the flour and mix together.
3
Add the evaporated milk and water to the flour and mix together to form a soft dough.
4
Sprinkle your work surface with additional flour and roll the biscuit dough out to about 3/4 inch thick.
5
Cut into biscuit rounds (should yield 12 biscuits).
6
Place the biscuits onto a greased baking sheet and bake in a preheated 350 degree oven for about 25 minutes or until golden brown.
7
Remove from the oven and set aside.
8
To make the gravy, add the ground hamburger and onions to a frying pan and cook completely. Sprinkle with flour mix to combine, add the chicken stock and the evaporated milk. Stir to combine.
9
Bring to the gravy to a boil and simmer for 5 minutes.
10
Serve the hamburger gravy over the freshly baked biscuits and enjoy.
