Navajo Tacos

Navajo Tacos

An amazing dinner idea and easy to make, these Navajo taco’s are the bomb. I dought these are truly created from the Navajo Native American Tribe but either way they are delicious and fun to make for dinner. Create a Navajo taco “bar” for your family, friends or a party to have a delicious meal!

Ingredients

For the Dough: 1 cup buttermilk
1 cup water
1 tbsp instant yeast
1/2 cup sugar
1/3 cup olive oil
5-6 cups flour
2 tsp salt
For the Taco: 1 pound ground beef
1 pkg taco seasoning
2 cups shredded iceberg lettuce
2 cups shredded cheese
2 cups fresh pico de gallo
1 cup prepared salsa
1 cup sour cream
Oil for frying

Instructions

1
To make the dough, in the bowl of your stand mixer add the dough ingredients and knead for 15 minutes. If using dry active yeast, dissolve yeast in the 1 cups of water first and than add to the dough mixture and proceed with the kneading.
2
Spray a large bowl with vegetable spray and transfer the dough to the bowl, spray the top of the dough with vegetable spray , loosely cover and allow the dough to double in size.
3
Heat a large sauté pan on the stove and add the fully cook the hamburger fully and sprinkle with the taco seasoning mix. Follow the spice package directions to cook as needed. Once the meat is fully cooked and mixed with the taco seasoning spice package, set aside.
4
Once the dough has doubled in size, heat about 3 inches of oil in a frying pan to 350 degree’s.
5
Pull about a baseball size piece of dough off and flatten to 1/3 of an inch. Fry the dough for about 3-5 minutes on each side or until it is golden brown and fully cooked through. Transfer the fried bread to a plate lined with paper towels and continue frying the scones until the dough is gone.
6
Mix the fresh pico de gallo with the prepared salsa and set aside.
7
To assemble the Navajo tacos, take the fried bread and top with the prepared hamburger, shredded cheese, fresh pico/salsa blend with, shredded lettuce and finish with a dollop of sour cream. Serve and enjoy!
