Oakdell Egg Breakfast Calzone

Oakdell Egg Breakfast Calzone

This delicious breakfast idea is great for the holidays or anytime of the year. Fill the calzones with your favorite breakfast items and customize them to your likes and needs.

Ingredients

For the Calzone Dough: 4 cups flour
1 1/2 cups water
1/3 cup olive oil
1 tbsp sugar
2 tsp salt
2 tsp instant yeast
For the Calzone Filling: 1 dozen Oakdell eggs, scrambled
1 pound bacon, cooked and chopped
1 small onion, diced
2 cups shredded cheese
Salt and Pepper to taste

Instructions

1
To make the calzone dough, add the flour, water, olive oil, sugar, salt and instant yeast into the bowl of your bread mixer and mix until combine. Continue kneading for about 10 minutes or until the dough is smooth.
2
Remove the dough from the mixer, smooth into a ball and transfer to an oiled bowl, loosely cover the dough and allow it to double in size.
3
Scramble the eggs with the onion and cooked/chopped bacon. Set aside until ready to use.
4
Divide the dough into 4 or 6 equal portions (depending on the size of the calzones you want) and roll each portion into a circle about 1/4 inch thick.
5
Divide the scrambled egg mixture between the calzone circles and fold each calzone in half, sealing the edges. Place them on a parchment lined baking sheet and brush with an egg wash (1 egg plus 2 tbsp water whisked together).
6
Allow the calzones to rest for 20 minutes before baking them off in a 400 degree pre-heated oven. Bake for about 20 minutes or until golden brown.
7
Remove the breakfast calzones from the oven, serve with your favorite dipping sauce and enjoy!
