Old Fashioned Candied Yams

Old Fashion Candied Yams

Thanksgiving around the table isn’t complete without grandma’s old fashioned candied yams. Caramel, marshmallows and pecans finish off this dish for the perfect sweet to combine with the savory. However, you like to make your candied yams, they make a wonderful side dish.

Ingredients

4 medium sized yams peeled (sweet potatoes)
2 cups brown sugar
1 cup corn syrup
½ cup butter
¼ cup water
3 cups miniature marshmallows
1/3 cup chopped pecans

Instructions

1
Slice peeled yams into medallion size pieces.
2
In a large sauté pan add the corn syrup, brown sugar, butter, and water.
3
Bring sugar mixture to a boil and allow to boil for 1 minute.
4
Place yam medallions into sugar mixture and cook for 5-10 minutes on each side or until the yams are tender.
5
Place yams in a 9x13 baking pan (that you’ve sprayed with vegetable spray) and pour any remaining sugar mixture over them.
6
Sprinkle tops with marshmallows and chopped pecans
7
Bake in a 350 degree oven for 20 minutes or until marshmallow has melted and is a beautiful golden brown color. Serve and enjoy
