Sourdough Donuts with Caramel Cream Filling

Sourdough Donuts with a Caramel Cream Filling

Here’s a delicious sourdough donut that are fairly easy to make. Filled with a caramel cream filling these donuts are over the top incredible.

 

Ingredients

For the Sourdough Donuts: 4 cups flour
1/2 cup sugar
1 tsp salt
1 cup cooled scalded milk
1 egg
1 cup sourdough starter or 2 tsp yeast
6 tbsp softened butter
For the Caramel Cream Filling: 2 cups whipping cream
1/2 cup prepared caramel sauce

Instructions

In the bowl of you mixer with the bread mixing attachment on add of the ingredients for the sourdough donuts and mix/knead for 10 minutes.

Spray a large bowl with vegetable spray and transfer the dough to the prepared bowl. spray the top of the dough with vegetable spray, cover and let the dough double in size. Depending on the temperature of you room, this could take several hours.

Once the dough has doubled in size, divide into 17 equal portions and shape into round balls. Slightly flatten the round balls and transfer them baking sheet that has been sprayed with vegetable spray. Let these double in size again.

When ready to fry, preheat at least 3-4 inches of oil in a heavy bottom pan to 350-360 degree’s.

Fry the doughnuts 2 minutes on each side or until they are golden and cooked through.

Remove the donuts to a paper towel lined plate to absorb excess oil.

Once the donuts are cooled, whip the whipping cream and fold the caramel sauce into the whipped cream. Pipe the caramel cream into the doughnuts, serve and enjoy!
