Cheesy Italian Calzones
These delicious calzones are a great way to use up re-purpose leftovers or create a wonderful dinner. Use your favorite dips and enjoy a little bit of Italy for dinner. I used my Holiday Cheese Ball recipe for my cheese filling, but you can use any kind of cheese you want.
Ingredients
For the Dough:
4 cups flour
1/3 cup extra virgin olive oil
1 1/2 cups water
1 tsp instant yeast
1 tbsp season salt
For the Filling:
Cheese of your choice
Instructions
1
In the bowl of you mixer, add the flour, extra virgin olive oil, water, instant yeast and salt. Mix and knead the dough for 15 minutes. Cover and let dough double in size.
2
Once the dough has doubled in size, divide it into 4 equal portions.
3
Roll each portion of dough into a round pizza and fill with about 1/3 cup cheese of choice. I like to use leftover cheese balls as the filling.
4
Fold the dough over on itself and crimp the edges to create the calzone.
5
Place the calzone on a baking sheet and brush with an egg wash (1 egg plus 1 tbsp water mix together) allow the dough to proof for about 30 minutes.
6
Preheat your oven with the pizza stone in the oven to 400 degree’s.
7
Place the prepared calzones directly on the hot pizza stone and bake for about 20 minutes or until they are golden brown.
8
Remove from the oven and serve with your favorite marinara sauce or ranch dressing for dipping.
