Tri-Tip Beef Sandwich with Red Onion Jam

Tri-Tip Beef Sandwich with Red Onion Jam

This delicious beef sandwich is set apart from all other sandwiches by the homemade red onion jam. It’s a simple jam that can be made with any kind of onion, however, I like the sweet and mild flavor of the red onion.

Ingredients

1 tri-tip roast (2-3 lbs)
2 tbsp season salt mixture (I use Montreal Steak Seasoning)
3 large red onions, thinly sliced
1/4 cup olive oil
1/2 cup red wine
1/3 cup red wine vinegar
1 cup sugar
2 tsp celery salt
1 tsp black pepper

Instructions

1
Rub the tri-tip beef roast with the season salt. Roast in your oven until the internal temperature is 145 degree’s. Remove from the oven and let it cool.
2
In a large saute pan, add the slice onions and olive oil. Saute the onions for about 10 minutes until they begin to caramelize. Add 1 cup of water and continue cooking for an additional 10 minutes.
3
Add the red wine, red wine vinegar, sugar, celery salt and black pepepr. Continue stirring until the liquid has reduced out.
4
Remove from the heat, cool.
5
To assemble the sandwiches, slice the tri-tip roast into thin slices going against the grain. Set slices aside.
6
Spread the red onion jam onto your favorite bread or roll and top with the freshly sliced tri-tip. Serve and enjoy!
