Thanksgiving Sides
Thanksgiving is all about tradition. Here are two classics side dishes every Thanksgiving table needs!
Ingredients
Loaded Yams:
4 yams peeled
2 cups brown sugar
½ cup butter
¼ cup water
3 cups miniature marshmallows
1/3 cup chopped pecans
Traditional Cranberry Sauce:
1 cup water
1 cup sugar
1 bag fresh cranberries (12 oz bag)
Instructions
1
To make the traditional yams: slice peeled yams into medallion size pieces.
2
In a large sauté pan, add brown sugar, butter, and water.
3
Bring sugar mixture to a boil and allow to boil for 1 minute.
4
Place yam medallions into sugar mixture and cook for 5-10 minutes on each side or until the yams are tender. If needed, add additional water preventing it from burning.
5
Place yams in a 9x13 baking pan (that you’ve sprayed with vegetable spray) and pour any remaining sugar mixture over them.
6
Sprinkle tops with marshmallows and chopped pecans
7
Bake in a 350 degree oven for 20 minutes or until marshmallow has melted and is a beautiful golden brown color.
8
To make traditional Cranberry Sauce:
Mix all together into a large sauce pan.
9
Bring to a boil and continue cooking until cranberries begin to pop.
10
Remove from stove, cool and serve
