Swiss Steak with Baked Potatoes and Broccoli

Swiss Steaks

Swiss steaks are really easy to make and wonderful for dinner. Some people may call this cube steaks which is absolutely correct. The “Swiss” name is actually referring to the type of tenderizing the cube steak goes through.

Ingredients

4 baker potatoes
4 swiss steaks
1 tbsp steak seasoning
1 cup flour
4 cups broccoli heads
1 small onion sliced
1 tbsp minced garlic
2 tbsp butter
2 tbsp flour
3 cups beef stock
Olive oil
Salt and pepper as needed

Instructions

1
Clean and bake the potatoes in a 350 degree oven for about 45 minutes or until they are fork tender.
2
Season both sides of the Swiss steaks with steak seasoning and dredge in flour to lightly coat them.
3
Heat a large frying pan on the stove and add enough olive oil to lightly coat the bottom of the pan.
4
Add the broccoli, sliced onion and minced garlic to the pan. Sauté the broccoli for about a minutes. Add the prepared steaks to the pan and cook for about 3 minutes on each side. If the pan is too small, remove the broccoli and add the steaks and cook them.
5
Remove the steaks and broccoli from the pan and set aside. Add the butter and allow it to melt in the pan. Stir in the flour so the melted butter and flour create a roux. Whisk in the beef stock and bring to a boil while stirring. Reduce heat and simmer for 3 minutes.
6
Serve the Swiss steaks with baked potatoes, broccoli and pan gravy.
