Southern Style Chicken Fried Steak
Chicken fried steak is a favorite of mine and I often order it at restaurants. By using buttermilk you can make it more Southern style.
Ingredients
2 cubed steaks
2 cups self rising flour
2 tbsp onion powder
2 tbsp garlic powder
1 tbsp paprika
1 tbsp salt
1 tbsp ground black pepper
1 1/2 cups buttermilk
1 egg
1 tbsp hot sauce
Instructions
1
When I buy my cube steaks, I always ask the butcher to run the cube steaks through the tenderizer they have in the butcher department.
2
In a large re-sealable bag, add the self rising flour, onion/garlic powder, paprika, salt and black pepper. Shake up the bag to mix everything together.
3
In a small bowl whisk the buttermilk, egg and hot sauce together.
4
Dip the tenderized cube steak into the flour mixture and than into the buttermilk mixture and finish by shaking in the flour.
5
Heat a large saute pan on the stove and add about 2 inches of oil to be able to fry the chicken fried steaks. Fry the two steaks about 3 minutes on each side so they are golden brown.
6
Remove the chicken fried steak and place on a place lined with paper towels to remove excess oil.
7
Serve with mashed potatoes, country gravy and your favorite vegetable. Enjoy!
