Sourdough Starter
Sourdough is delicious and the starter is easy to make. I use this starter as the base for many baked goods, like my sourdough rolls.
Ingredients
2 cups water
1/2 apple sliced
2 cups whole wheat flour
Instructions
1
To the water add the sliced apples and let it sit for 30 minutes.
2
To a large bowl add the whole wheat flour.
3
Strain the water removing the apple slices and add the water to the whole wheat flour.
4
Mix everything together and loosely cover with a clean kitchen towel and set aside for 24-48 hours on your countertop. Make sure it’s not in the way of anything.
5
After 48 hours remove half of the start and use in your favorite pancake batter or bread and replace the removed start with 1 cup water and 1 cup whole wheat flour, stir to combine everything together again. Leave out for another 24 hours and than loosely cover in the refrigerator. Use as needed.
