Scones (Fried Bread)

Scones (Fried Bread)

I grew up thinking scones were the real deal. However, what we call scones is really fried bread to the rest of the world. Use them for sandwiches, breakfast, tacos or whatever you like, they are delicious!

Ingredients

6 cups bread flour
1/2 cup powdered milk
1/2 cup sugar
1 tbsp instant yeast
1/2 cup olive oil
2 tbsp dough enhancer
3 cups water (more or less)
1 tbsp salt
Oil for frying
Toppings

Instructions

1
To make the dough, add the bread flour, powdered milk, sugar, yeast, olive oil and dough enhancer to the bowl of your mixer.
2
Mix the dough together and let it knead for a good 10-15 minutes. If needed, adjust the water if the dough is to dry or add additional flour if needed.
3
Remove the dough to a greased bowl and spray the top of the dough with vegetable spray to prevent it from drying out while it proofs. To proof, loosely cover the bowl with a clean kitchen towel and let the dough double in size.
4
Once the dough has doubled in size, add enough oil to deep fry the scones in frying pan and heat the oil oil to about 375 degrees.
5
When ready to fry, remove a tennis ball size of dough and flatten the dough with a rolling pin or by stretching the dough with your hands.
6
Carefully place the prepared dough into the hot oil and fry for about 2 minutes on each side or until both sides are golden brown.
7
Remove the scone from the oil and place it on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb any extra oil.
8
Serve with your favorite toppings and enjoy!
