Ingredients
1 large yellow onion
1 cup milk
1 cup buttermilk
2 eggs
4 cups flour
1/4 cup ranch dry mix
2 tbsp cajun seasoning
1 tbsp garlic pepper seasoning
1 tbsp black pepper
1/2 gallon vegetable oil
For the Dipping Sauce:
1/2 cup Ranch Dressing
1/2 cup Thousand Island dressing
1/4 cup Sriracha
Instructions
1
Cut the top off of the onion and remove the brown onion “paper” from around the onion. Clean off the root end of the onion but do not cut it off.
2
To cut the onion, turn the onion onto the cut side down, root side up.
3
Come down about 1/2 inch from the root and cut into the onion all the way down. Make four cuts quartering the onion. Cut each “quarter” in half again the same way and than cut each half again. There should be a total of 16 cuts on the onion.
4
Place the onion root side down on your cutting board and gently open the onion into a blossom.
5
In a large bowl, whisk the milk and butter milk together with the eggs. Dip the onion blossom into the milk mixture, lifting it up allowing excess liquid to drip off.
6
Place the onion root side down in a large empty bowl.
7
In a third large bowl, whisk the flour, dry ranch mix, cajun seasoning, garlic pepper seasoning and black pepper together.
8
Grabbing handfuls of the flour mixture, sprinkle it into all areas of the onion blossom, being sure to open up the blossom as needed.
9
Pour the oil into a large pot and heat to 370 degree’s. Carefully lower the prepared onion blossom into the hot oil and fry for 10 minutes.
10
Remove the onion from the oil and place it on a large plate lined with paper towels.
11
To make the dipping sauce, mix everything together in a small bowl.
12
Serve the onion blossom with the prepared dipping sauce and enjoy!
