Old Fashioned Apple Dumplings

Old Fashioned Apple Dumplings

These delicious apple dumplings are the ones my great grandmother would make. Flavorful and easy to make your family and friends are going to love them. Here’s a link for Chef Bryan’s pie crust.

Ingredients

1 recipe Chef Bryan’s pie crust
6-8 medium size granny smith apples
4 tbsp butter
1/2 cup brown sugar
2 cups water
2 cups sugar
2 tsp vanilla
cinnamon
nutmeg

Instructions

1
Preheat your oven to 400 degree’s.
2
Peel and slice the apples in half, remove the core and set aside.
3
Roll out the pastry dough and cut it into roughly 5x5 squares
4
Place the prepared apple slice, cut side up on the square of pastry dough.
5
Sprinkle the apple slices with brown sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg.
6
Carefully bring the corners of the pastry dough together up and around the apple, sealing the edges of the dough. Place the prepared apples in a baking dish and set aside.
7
In sauce pan, bring the water, sugar, butter and vanilla to a boil. Continue boiling for about 5 minutes.
8
Carefully pour the hot syrup over the apples and into the baking dish. I like to place the baking dish on a baking sheet to make it easier to transfer to and from the oven.
9
Place the prepared apples into the pre-heated oven and bake for about 1 hour.
10
Remove from the oven, place an apple dumpling in a bowl and spoon some syrup over it. Serve and enjoy!
