Kalua Pork
Kalua pork does not have alcohol in it but it refers to the style of cooking. Traditionally, a hole is dug, lined with rocks and a large bonfire is started in the hole. Once the fire burns down a prepared pig is placed in the hole, covered with banana leaves and cooked for hours until it is fall apart tender. This recipe is just as easy doing it in a pressure cooker and much faster!
Ingredients
1 pork shoulder roast 4-6 pounds
1 tbsp sea salt
2 tsp liquid smoke (optional)
1 cup water
Instructions
1
Place the pork shoulder roast into your pressure cooker.
2
Sprinkle with sea salt.
3
Mix the liquid smoke (optional) and water together and pour it into the pressure cooker.
4
Pressure cook the roast on high pressure for about 90 minutes. Release the pressure as directed in the manufacturers book and check the roast. If should fall apart.
5
If the roast isn’t fall apart tender, replace the lid of the pressure cooker and cook for an additional 30 minutes. Release the pressure as directed and check the tenderness of the pork.
6
The same results can be done in an oven too. Place the pork roast in a baking pan add all of the ingredients as directed above, cover and seal with aluminum foil and bake in your oven for about 6 hours at 300 degree’s until fall apart tender. Be sure to check the water so it doesn’t dry out.

If the pork is fall apart tender, remove it from the pressure cooker, taste for salt and adjust as needed. Serve with my Hawaiian potato salad, rice and homemade rolls. Enjoy!
How would I make this in a slow cooker? Thanks . I lived in Hawaii & I miss the flowers & food. Ordered Hawaiian sea salt for this. I’ve been planning to make this for awhile.
