Homemade Pies
Homemade pies are easy to make. The crust is the only thing that’s scary to make and truly is the one part of a homemade pies you need to master for success.
Ingredients
4 cups all purpose flour
1 cup shortening
1 tsp salt
1 cup water
Prepared pie filling for 2 pies
Instructions

In a large mixing bowl (or the bowl of your food processor) combine the flour, shortening, and salt together. Blend (or pulse if using your food processor) together with your fingers or a pastry cutter. Continue blending until the flour and shortening resemble course meal.

Add the water and blend together just until the mass pulls together into a soft dough.

Cover the dough with plastic wrap and refrigerate for about an hour.

Once the dough has chilled, divide into four equal portions and roll out into disks that are about ¼ inch thick.

Carefully fold dough in half and place over pie tin. Unfold the dough and press into the pie tin trim and flute the crust edges.

Use your favorite filling and fill the prepared pie tin and roll out the top crust, cut a steam vent in the top of the crust, brush with an egg wash and sprinkle with sugar and pumpkin pie spice .

Bake the pies in a preheated 350 degree oven until they are golden brown (about 45 minutes).

Remove from the oven, cool, serve and enjoy!
