Easy Zombie Caramel Apples

Easy Zombie Caramel Apples

Making caramel apples is a fall must! Good caramel is easy to buy and once the apples are dipped have fun decorated them for family and friends.

Ingredients

2.5 lbs prepared caramel (I use Peter’s)
12 medium size granny smith apples
12 wooden caramel apple sticks
Decorating of choice (chocolate, sprinkles…)
Caramel apple boxes

Instructions

1
Place the prepared caramel into a large pot and into your oven. Set the oven to 200F and watch the caramel, stirring as needed, for about 1 hour or until the caramel has melted completely.
2
While the caramel is melting, soak the apples in in 1 gallon of water with 1 cup of white vinegar. Let the apples soak for about 15 minutes. This solution will remove any wax coating on the apples. Rinse them off and dry with paper towels. Set the prepared apples aside.
3
When ready to dip, the caramel should be about 120 degrees. Insert the wooden caramel apple sticks into the stem side of the the apple so they are about 3/4 of the way in the apple.
4
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and lightly spray with vegetable spray.
5
To dip, tip the pot with the caramel in it to create a deep well of caramel. Fully submerse the apple in the caramel. Remove the apple from the caramel letting all the excess caramel drip off of the apple back into the caramel.
6
Place the caramel apple (stick side up) onto the prepared parchment paper. Continue dipping the apples until the caramel and apples are used up. Place the apples in the refrigerator if necessary.
7
When the caramel is set, decorate the apples as desired with melted chocolate, and sprinkles. Let the decorations set and box up the apples (if needed) and give them to friends and family to enjoy!
