Deliciously Creamy Old-Fashioned Custard Recipe – A Timeless Dessert Delight!

Indulge in the timeless charm of our old-fashioned custard recipe that promises to whisk you away to a world of velvety sweetness. This classic dessert, enriched with the goodness of whole milk and the warmth of vanilla, is a delightful treat for your taste buds. Follow our simple steps to create a custard that’s not only comforting but also a feast for the senses. My family has enjoyed this recipe for more than 4 generations.

Ingredients

2 cups whole milk
1/2 cup granulated sugar
4 large Oakdell eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon salt
Ground nutmeg (for sprinkling on top)

Instructions

1
Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C). Create a water bath by placing a baking dish filled with 1 inch of water in the oven.
2
In a medium saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until steam rises (avoid boiling).
3
In a separate bowl, whisk together sugar, eggs, vanilla extract, and salt until well combined.
4
Slowly pour the hot milk into the egg mixture, whisking constantly to avoid curdling.
5
Strain the custard mixture through a fine-mesh sieve to achieve a smooth texture.
6
Pour the custard mixture into individual ramekins or a large baking dish.
7
Sprinkle a touch of ground nutmeg on top of each custard for an extra layer of flavor.
8
Carefully place the ramekins or baking dish into the water bath in the oven.
9
Bake for 40-45 minutes until the custard sets around the edges but remains slightly jiggly in the center.
10
Remove from the oven and cool in the water bath for a few minutes.
11
Once cooled, refrigerate the custard for at least 2 hours until it's perfectly chilled and set.
12
Serve this old-fashioned custard chilled, either on its own or with a delightful dollop of whipped cream on top.
