Cabbage Rolls

Cabbage Rolls

Try rolling up your favorite meatloaf blend into semi cooked cabbage leaves to create this fun dinner idea for your family and friends. Any type of cabbage can be used, just be sure to cook the cabbage to soften the leaves so they are pliable and bend easily.

Ingredients

1 head of cabbage
2-3 pounds of hamburger
1 cup carrots, finely diced
1 tbsp steak seasoning blend
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1/2 cup finely diced onion
1/2 cup green onion, finely diced
1 tbsp minced garlic
2 cups instant rice (minute rice)
For the Sauce: 2 cans crushed tomatoes
1 can Italian style tomato paste
1 tbsp Italian seasoning blend

Instructions

1
Remove the core from from the cabbage and submerge it into a large pot of cold water.
2
Bring to a boil and cook the cabbage until the leaves are soft enough to remove from the cabbage and are easily “bendable”.
3
To finely dice the carrots, onion and green onions, I simply add them to my food processor and pulse them together to finely chop them.
4
While the cabbage is cooking, combine the remaining ingredients and mix until combined.
5
Divide the meat between the prepared cabbage leaves and fold them up like a “burrito” and set them aside.
6
Place the rack into your pressure cooker and place the cabbage rolls into the pressure cooker.
7
Pour the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste and Italian seasoning over the cabbage rolls and add 1 cup of water to the pot.
8
Close the lid and bring to pressure. Cook for approximately 15 minutes, release the pressure according to the manufacturer.
9
If needed, feel free to adjust amounts to accommodate the size of your pressure cooker. If you choose not to use a pressure cooker, place the cabbage rolls in a steam basket and steam for about an hour or until the hamburger is completely cooked through and serve with the tomato sauce. Just make the sauce in a pan.
10
These can also be made in a slow cooker with the tomato sauce on low for about 6 hours or until the hamburger is fully cooked through.
11
Serve with artisan bread and enjoy!
