Biscuits and Country Style Gravy
Delicious and fun to make, this classic dish can be enjoyed for dinner or breakfast. I like using a sage pork sausage for mine, however, you can use your favorite protein and create your own biscuits and country style gravy!
Ingredients
For the Biscuits:
1 stick frozen butter (8 tbsp)
1 1/2 cups self rising flour
1 tsp salt
1 cup milk
1 egg for egg wash
For the Pork Sausage:
1 lb sage pork sausage
2 tbsp butter
2 tbsp flour
4 cups milk
Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
1
To make the biscuits: Preheat oven to 400 degree’s
2
Grate the frozen butter into a large bowl and add the flour and salt.
3
Toss the flour and grated butter together. If needed freeze for an additional 5 minutes to keep cold.
4
Add the milk and mix everything together. If needed adjust milk or flour to create a soft dough.
5
Flour your work surface and gentler fall the dough mass into a 10x12 rectangle. Fold the dough into thirds like you are folding a piece of paper.
6
Rotate the dough a quarter turn clockwise and repeat four times rolling it out, folding it and rotating it.
7
Roll the dough about 1/2 inch thick and cut into desired shapes
8
Place the cut biscuits onto a grease baking dish. Whisk the egg and brush the egg on top to ensure the biscuits turn golden brown.
9
Bake in your preheated oven for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown.
10
Remove from the oven and serve with some delicious pork sausage gravy or by themselves with butter and jam.
11
For the pork gravy: Cook pork thoroughly in a large sauté pan. Drain the pork if needed.
12
Melt butter into cooked pork and add flour and sage. Stir for about 1 minute. Be sure flour is well incorporated with the pork and butter.
13
Add milk and bring to a bowl. Reduce heat and simmer for about 10 minutes. Stir frequently.
14
Serve over fresh biscuits.
