BBQ Chicken Pizza with Caramel BBQ Sauce

This BBQ chicken pizza recipe is easy to make and delicious. The caramelized onions add a touch of sweetness that perfectly complements the smoky BBQ sauce and juicy chicken.

This recipe is perfect for a quick and easy weeknight meal. It’s also great for parties or potlucks.

To make this recipe, you’ll need a batch of pizza dough, some shredded chicken, shredded cheese, and your favorite BBQ sauce. You’ll also need to make a quick caramelized onion topping.

Once you have all of your ingredients, simply assemble the pizza and bake it in the oven. In just 15-20 minutes, you’ll have a delicious and satisfying pizza that everyone will love.

Here are some tips for making the best BBQ chicken pizza:

  • Use a good quality pizza dough.
  • Don’t overcrowd the pizza with toppings.
  • Bake the pizza in a hot oven for a crispy crust.
  • Let the pizza cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving

Ingredients

1 batch pizza dough
1 rotisserie Chicken, meat removed and shredded
4 cups shredded mixed cheese (mozzarella, cheddar, parmesan…)
Any other toppings you would like
For the Dough: 500 grams/2 cups all purpose flour
350 grams/1 3/4 cups water
1 1/2 tsp yeast
2 tbsp olive oil
2 tsp salt
For the BBQ sauce: 1 cup sugar
1/3 cup water
1 stick butter (8 tbsp)
1 onion chopped
4 garlic cloves, minced
2 cups prepared bbq sauce (about 1 bottle)

Instructions

1
To make the dough, add the flour, water, yeast, olive oil and salt into the bowl of your mixer and mix/knead for about 10 minutes or until smooth. Transfer to a greased bowl, spray the top of the dough with vegetable oil, cover and let the dough double in size.
2
Preheat your oven to 450 degrees with the pizza stone in the oven.
3
Divide the dough into two equal dough rounds and each shape each portion into a 14 inch round.
4
To make the caramel bbq sauce, add the sugar and water to a heavy bottom sauce pan. bring to a boil and dissolve the sugar in the water. Bring to a boil and continue cooking until the sugar mixture begins to boil in small little bubbles. Add the chopped onion and garlic to pan and continue cooking until the color begins to change and you start to see some “puffs” of smoke come from it. Add the prepared BBQ sauce, stir to combine, add the butter and stir to incorporate. Remove from the heat and set aside.
5
Toss the shredded chicken with a small amount of the prepared bbq sauce.
6
Spread about 1 cup of the prepared bbq sauce on the shaped pizza dough. Sprinkle half of the shredded cheese onto the pizza follow by half of the prepared shredded chicken. Top with any other toppings you choose.
7
I like to shape and build the pizza on a pizza round and transfer the round and place on top of the preheated pizza stone. Once the dough sets, I slide the pizza onto pizza stone and finish cooking for about 5 minutes or until the pizza is golden and the cheese is bubbling.
8
Remove the pizza from the oven, let cool for a couple of minutes, cut and serve with your favorite sides.
