Baked Apples and Pears with Almonds
When the aroma a cinnamon, apples and pears wafts through the house, it is a true indication fall has arrived. A simple treat is stuffing and baking fruit for a healthy dessert idea. Courtesy of the American Heart Association I’m please to offer this healthy dessert idea for you all to enjoy! This recipe and the photo are courtesy of my friends from the American Heart Association.
Ingredients
4 small Granny Smith or Golden Delicious apples, or your choice
1/4 cup unsalted, uncoiled almonds
2 tbsp dried cranberries or raisins
1/2 tsp cinnamon
2 tsp honey
Instructions
1
Preheat oven to 400 degreeās Fahrenheit.
2
Cut 1/2 inch off the top of the apples, save the tops.
3
Using a spoon or paring knife, core out the apples, leaving a bottom/base intact.
4
Chop almonds if needed. I just purchases slivered or sliced almonds.
5
In a small bowl, combine almonds, cranberries and cinnamon - stir gently to combine. Drizzle with honey and stir until almonds and cranberries are coated.
6
Spoon almond mixture into apples and replace tops. Fill a small baking dish with 1/4 inch of water, place apples in dish and cover loosely tented with foil. Bake 30 minutes. Remove foil and bake an additional 15 minutes or until the apples are tender and lightly golden.
