Quick to prepare and bursting with flavor, this easy recipe will have everyone coming back for more!

Ingredients

4 duros de harina sheets (Mexican wheat pasta)
2 cups vegetable oil (for frying)
For the Filling: 2 cups shredded meat (pork, chicken, beef…) (or cooked protein of choice)
½ teaspoon chili powder
½ teaspoon cumin
½ teaspoon garlic powder
½ teaspoon salt
½ cup refried beans (optional, for extra flavor)
For the Spicy Lime Slaw: 2 cups shredded cabbage
1 carrot, shredded
¼ cup mayonnaise
1 tablespoon lime juice
½ teaspoon tajín seasoning (or chili powder)
¼ teaspoon salt
Toppings: ½ cup crumbled cotija cheese (or shredded Mexican blend)
¼ cup diced tomatoes
¼ cup sliced jalapeños
¼ cup fresh cilantro
1 lime, cut into wedges

Instructions

1
Fry the Duros Taco Shells: Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C). Drop a one duros de harina into the oil and fry for 10-15 seconds until they puff up. Remove and drain on paper towels. Gently fold them in half while warm to create a taco shell shape if desired.
2
Prepare the Filling: In a bowl, mix shredded protein choice with chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, and salt. Warm up the mixture in a pan over medium heat for 2-3 minutes. If using refried beans, heat them in a small pot until smooth and spreadable.
3
Make the Spicy Lime Slaw: In a bowl, combine shredded cabbage, carrot, mayonnaise, lime juice, tajín, and salt. Toss until well coated and set aside.
4
Assemble the Tacos: Spread a thin layer of refried beans inside each duro taco shell. Fill with the seasoned protein mixture. Top with spicy lime slaw, crumbled cotija cheese, diced tomatoes, and sliced jalapeños and diced avocados. Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve with lime wedges.
