For the Chicken: 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
1/2 cup cornstarch
Salt and pepper to taste
1 egg, beaten
Vegetable oil for frying
For the Sauce: 1/4 cup soy sauce
1/4 cup hoisin sauce
1/4 cup rice vinegar
3 tablespoons brown sugar
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water
Red pepper flakes (optional)
Green onions, sliced for garnish
Sesame seeds for garnish

Instructions

1
Prepare the Chicken: Season the chicken pieces with salt and pepper in a bowl. Dredge each piece in cornstarch, then dip into the beaten egg.
2
Fry the Chicken: Heat vegetable oil in a wok or frying pan over medium-high heat. Fry the chicken in batches until crispy and golden brown. Remove and drain on paper towels.
3
Make the Sauce: In a separate pan, mix together soy sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, brown sugar, garlic, and ginger. Bring to a simmer.
4
Thicken the Sauce: Add the cornstarch mixture to the sauce, stirring until thickened. For added heat, stir in red pepper flakes if desired.
5
Combine and Serve: Toss the fried chicken pieces in the sauce until well coated. Garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds before serving.
