Ingredients

2 lbs hamburger
2 yellow onions, sliced
Sliced cheese
Hamburger buns
Condiments of choice
Vegetable oil
Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

Divide the ground beef into 6 equal portions and shape each portion into a ball. Set aside until ready to grill.

Heat a large fry pan on the stove over medium heat and add a little vegetable oil. Sauté the sliced onions in the pan until caramelized, stirring occasionally. Set aside.

Heat a griddle or a heavy-bottomed skillet over medium-high heat.

Place a portion of ground beef onto the hot griddle or skillet. Using a sturdy spatula, press down on the ball of meat with a firm, even pressure to smash it into a thin patty. Season the patty with salt and pepper or your favorite seasoning.

Repeat the process with the remaining portions of ground beef, making sure to leave enough space between the patties for them to cook evenly.

Cook the patties for about 2-3 minutes, or until the edges start to crisp and brown. Carefully flip each patty using the spatula.

Place a slice of cheese on top of each patty, if desired, and cook for another 1-2 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the patties are cooked to your desired level of doneness.

Assemble your burgers by placing a patty on the bottom half of each bun. Top with caramelized onions and any other condiments of your choice.
