Cheese Burger Empanadas
These cheese burger empanadas are the greatest treats for parties, family gatherings or a simple dinner.
Ingredients
For the dough:
1/2 cup shortening
1 1/2 cups flour
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup water
For the Filling:
1 pound hamburger
2 cups shredded cheese
1/2 cup prepared salsa
Instructions

To make the dough, cut the shortening, flour and salt together until it is coarse meal. Add the water and carefully mix until it comes into a soft dough. Set aside until ready to use.

Brown the hamburger and add the salsa and cook until hamburger is fully cooked.

To assemble the empanadas, roll the dough to about 1 quarter inch thick on a floured surface. If desired, roll the dough a little thinner.

Cut 6 inch rounds out of the dough and place a large spoonful of the prepared hamburger onto the round and sprinkle with shredded cheese. Fold the dough over on itself created a half moon. Seal the edges and place on a baking sheet. Continue with the process until ingredients are used.

Brush the prepared empanadas with an egg wash, bake in a preheated 350 degree oven for about 20 minutes or until they are golden brown. Remove and serve with your favorite dips on the side.
