Poached Apples Stuffed with Walnuts

A delicious Bosnian dessert, poached apples stuffed with walnuts is a wonderful dessert that’s perfect in the fall or anytime!

Ingredients

4-5 large apples
3 cups water
3 cups sugar
1 tbsp vanilla
6-8 whole cloves
2 cups finely chopped walnuts
Whipping cream

Instructions

1
Cut the top of the apple off so it’s flat.
2
Using a sharp knife, cut the bottom of the apple out and using a spoon, scoop out the center of the apple being sure to get the core/seeds out of the apple.
3
In a large pot, add the water, sugar, vanilla and cloves. Place the prepared apples into the poaching solution and simmer for about 15 minutes or until the apples are tender.
4
Remove the apples from the poaching liquid, cool and stuff with the walnut stuffing.
5
To make the walnut stuffing, place the walnuts in your food processor and pulse until they are finally chopped.
6
To the chopped walnuts, add about 1/2 cup of the poaching liquid and pulse together to create a walnut “paste”.
7
Spoon the walnut stuffing into the prepared apples after they are poached.
8
Spoon some whipped cream on top and garnish with a walnut half or some sour cherries. Enjoy!
