French Toast

French Toast

I love French toast! It is probably my favorite breakfast food. Grandma would always make me French toast because she knew I loved it. I’m not sure what grandma did to make her version of French toast but it was always so good.  Perhaps it was the use of canned milk or the old electric frying pan she used. Either way, French toast has remained my favorite breakfast food to this day!

Ingredients

8 slices challah or brioche bread
1/4 cup milk
salt and pepper to taste
Sour Cream Sauce:
1/2 cup sour cream
1/4 cup brown sugar
Whipped Maple Butter:
1 cup butter, softened
1/4 cup maple syrup
Fresh fruit of the Season

Instructions

1
In a large bowl combine together eggs, milk, salt and pepper, whisk together.
2
Dip bread slices into the egg batter and cook for about 2 minutes on each side or until golden on a preheated skillet.
3
To make the sauce, combine sour cream and brown sugar in a sauce pan and heat to dissolve sugar. If sauce is to thick adjust by adding more sour cream.
4
To make the maple whipped butter, combine the butter and maple syrup in a large bowl and whip together until combined.
5
Drizzle sour cream sauce over french toast or serve with maple whipped butter. Serve with a side of fresh fruit.
