Homemade Strawberry Pop-Tarts
I loved pop-tarts growing up and so when I learned how to make them I was in heaven. These easy to make desserts are great for any party and go perfectly with a scoop of ice cream.
Ingredients
2 cups all purpose flour
12 tbsp cold butter
1 tsp salt
2 tbsp sugar
3/4 cup sour cream or 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream
1/2 cup strawberry jam plus more if wanted
1 egg
1 tbsp water
1 cup powder sugar
1/4 cup heavy whipping cream
1 tsp vanilla
Instructions
1
Preheat your oven to 350 degree’s.
2
In your food processor, add the flour and the cold butter. Be sure to chop the cold butter up into small even pieces so they cut into the flour evenly.
3
Add the salt and sugar and secure the lid in place. Pulse several times to cut the butter into the flour until it is a coarse “corn meal” texture.
4
Add the sour cream or heavy whipping cream and pulse until the dough pulls together.
5
Liberally flour your work surface and place the dough onto the work surface. Dust the top of the dough with flour so it doesn’t stick.
6
Roll the dough out into a large rectangle about 1/4 inch thick and cut into 18 even squares.
7
Place a tbsp of strawberry jam on the center area of 9 squares, carefully spreading the jam over the square.
8
Place the second square of dough over the top and press the edges down to secure them. Using a fork, seal the edges all the way around the square. Place the pop tarts on a parchment lined baking dish.
9
Make an egg wash by combining the egg and 1 tbsp of water in a small bowl and whisk together to combine. Brush each top of the strawberry pop tarts with the egg wash and place them in the oven for 20 minutes or until they are golden brown.
10
Remove from the oven and cool.
11
While the pop tarts are cooling, in a small bowl, whisk the 1 cup powdered sugar, 1/4 cup heavy whipping cream and tsp of vanilla together to combine.
12
Glaze the strawberry poptarts and sprinkle with candy sprinkles if desired. Enjoy!
