Pioneer Colored Easter Eggs

Pioneer Colored Easter Eggs

Let the kids go out and forage for some fun culinary colors for these eggs. All natural, no artificial color is the name of the game for these beautiful pioneer style colored eggs!

Ingredients

12 large eggs
Variety of culinary colors: Red Cabbage, Carrot Peelings, Paper skin from red or yellow onions, spinach, variety of greens
Vinegar
Cheese Cloth
Kitchen String

Instructions

Pour about 10 cups water into a large pot and add 1/4 cup vinegar to the pot.

Cut the cheese cloth into squares (about 6x6 or larger).

Cut the string into 8 inch lengths and tie a slip knot in each one.

On the prepared cheesecloth squares, choose your culinary colors and make a nest of lots of colors.

Place the egg in the center of your culinary colors and carefully pull the corners of the cheesecloth up making sure the culinary color nest wraps around the egg.

Twist the cheesecloth making sure it is snug around the egg, holding everything in place.

Tie the slip knot over the cheesecloth securing it in place and gently placing the prepared egg into the water mixture.

Bring to a boil, reduce heat to a simmer and cook for 10 minutes. Remove from the heat and let them sit for 10 minutes.

Pour cold water over the eggs if needed to help cool them and remove from the cheesecloth.

Let the eggs dry and arrange as desired in your Easter basket and enjoy!
